LA FESTA
Every year, The Society of Italian Americans hosts the annual La Festa celebration, a day dedicated to celebrating and promoting Italian heritage. This lively event serves as a fundraiser for our scholarship, aiming to support education and empower young individuals in their pursuit of knowledge. La Festa is a vibrant gathering where members and visitors alike come together to enjoy delicious Italian cuisine, music, and camaraderie. From live performances featuring Italian music to a bocce tournament, La Festa offers a remarkable experience that transports attendees to Italy. With its philanthropic purpose and immersive celebrations, La Festa is a beloved event that unites the community in the spirit of Italian heritage and education.
LA BEFANA
La Befana is a legendary figure deeply rooted in Italian folklore. According to the legend, Befana is an old woman who flies on her broomstick every year on the eve of the Epiphany, which is celebrated on January 6th. She is said to bring gifts to children who have been good throughout the year, filling their stockings with toys and sweets. It is believed that she enters through the chimney, just like Santa Claus, and leaves presents for the children. However, Befana also carries a sack filled with coal for the naughty children. Her appearance is that of a haggard old woman, covered in soot from the chimneys she enters. The legend of Befana is cherished in Italy, with children eagerly awaiting her arrival and leaving out a glass of wine or a plate of food as a token of appreciation for her generosity.
CULTURAL EVENTS AND MEMBER MEETINGS
The club organizes various events and gatherings throughout the year to cater to our members' interests and celebrate different occasions. From wine tastings to high school graduate celebrations, the club plans for a diverse range of activities for everyone. The annual steak fry is a popular event where members come together to enjoy delicious steaks and socialize. Another highlight is the club's annual outing to Blackhawk, providing an exciting opportunity for gambling and entertainment. Additionally, the Christmas party brings members together to celebrate the holiday season in a festive environment. The club also holds regular member meetings, serving as a platform to discuss and implement club-specific initiatives.
