HISTORY

Located along the front range of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, the city of Louisville grew as the result of European immigration in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s during the industrialization period. A large influx of Italian families made their way to Louisville as a result of jobs provided through coal mining. Because of the rich Italian heritage that helped the community grow, a group of interested people in 1988 focused their energy in creating a festival that honored the Italian culture and Louisville Italians. They were, Eugene Caranci, Lawrence Enrietto, Tony DelPizzo, Judy DeNovellis, and Lawrence Caranci. After the success of the first “La Festa” the group organized, in 1989, the Louisville Society of Italian Americans.

Children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of Society members in good standing are qualified to apply for a scholarship toward a college education. For more than 35 years, the Society continues to celebrate the annual “La Festa” to raise funds to support the scholarships that helps high school seniors who will attend college or trade school.
